Benefits of Muscle Strength Training - Exercises and Workouts

Muscle Strength training is a way of improving the muscle tone, shape and endurance using resistance workouts. Following are the main benefits of a proper strength training program:

Improvement in Physical Performance and Appearance: Muscles acts as an energy or power store for the body. The muscle uses the energy to produce motion. Strength training helps in the increase in muscle mass, size and endurance, thereby increasing performance of body regarding daily routine activities. The other great advantage of strength training is overall change in the physique of a person. For example consider a person having 180 lbs weight, he is having 35 pounds of body weight in the form of fat and 145 pounds of body weight in the form of lean muscles. Suppose with the help of strength training he converts 10 pounds of body fat in lean muscles then his muscle size will improve without any increase in body weight. Thus his body stature will improve completely. This will increase his self esteem and confidence. A research shows that if we don't do strength training exercises on regular basis then one and half pound of our lean muscle weight will decrease every year. This slow process of decrease in the size of the muscle mass is known as atrophy.

Thus strength training is very important to resist this lean muscle loss. Some people think that after the age of sixty you should stop strength training. This is completely a misconception as we can continue strength training for the whole life.

Improvement in Metabolic Efficiency of the Body: If proper strength training is done then the lean muscle size will improve. Strength training also increases the efficiency of body metabolism due to which food is properly consumed by body. If the food is properly consumed by body then the chances of accumulating body fat are very less. It also improves the efficiency of body even if it is at rest. When the muscles are in rest position they still requires a large amount of calorie. If strength training is done properly then this energy can be utilized in a more efficient manner. A complete bodybuilding program is incomplete without strength training workout or exercises.

Decreases in Muscle Injury: The muscles protect the body from any kind of injuries. If muscles are weak then the body is more injury prone. Strength training exercise improves the strength of muscles due to which muscles capacity to bear external force improves. Thus it minimizes the chances of injury. It should be kept in mind that when you are doing strength training exercise for a certain muscle group then you need to include some strength training exercise for the opposite muscles group as well. For example if you are doing biceps exercises on a particular day then you also need to do triceps exercises on the same day.

Slows Down the Ageing Process: The other benefit of strength training is that it makes the muscles strong and stiff due to which muscles remains active for a long duration of time. Thus a person remains fit and active even at an old age.
